This year's Super Bowl amounted to a four hour Glee commercial. Add in Christina Aguilera's cute attempt at singing the National Anthem at the start of the 2011 game and you get one heck of a gay Super Bowl.
But 2012's Super Bowl XLVI might out-gay any previous sporting event in homo history if reports that Madonna is the superstar halftime performer prove true.
Take it with a few extra grains of salt in your morningtime Bloody Mary, Mary, but sports publication SBNation.com says it has learned Her Madgesty will headline America's most popular sporting event.
Madonna will perform during the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on February 5, sources close to the event told SBNation.com on Monday. A spokesperson for the NFL declined to comment.
As you'd expect for an artist with her mass appeal, this isn't the first time Madonna's been approached about performing at the Super Bowl. In 1998, it was that Madonna would perform at Super Bowl XXXIII in Miami, only to have the plans fall apart before a deal could be reached. Likewise, Madonna was reportedly to headline the halftime show for Super Bowl XXXV, two years later, but backed out at the last minute.
The possible Madge-snag continues the NFL's trend of moving away from its snooze-inducing "safe" period of halftime performances in the wake of the 2004 Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake hysteria; earlier this year, the Black Eyed Peas & Usher became the first contemporary artists to perform the halftime show in seven years.
If it pans out, as much as we love Madonna, please, dear Gaga, please, no nip slip.
