Republican House Leadership have once again chosen to intervene in a challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and related laws brought by Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SDLN) on behalf of gay and lesbian service members, veterans, and their spouses.

More after the jump.

The House of Representative’s Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group (BLAG), currently controlled by Republicans and led by House Speaker John Boehner, has stepped in to defend DOMA in the case of McLaughlin v. United States.

The Obama administration and the Department of Justice have refused to defend DOMA in court, citing their belief that it’s unconstitutional and discriminatory.

Metro Weekly released a statement from SLDN executive director Aubrey Sarvis. "Speaker Boehner's request to defend this case in the wake of the ongoing harm done to military families by these discriminatory laws is reprehensible and callous."

Speaker Boehner was recently paid a visit by Chief Warrant Officer (CW2) Charlie Morgan. Morgan is a member of the New Hampshire National Guard and is a plaintiff in the SLDN lawsuit.  She’s currently battling incurable stage IV breast cancer. Clearly, Morgan is interested in protecting her family in the event of her imminent death.

Still, Sarvis says, "The Speaker has turned a deaf ear to the urgent pleas of CW2 Charlie Morgan and countless families like hers, who are living with the day-to-day realities of a military that has been forced to create two classes of service members."

Keeping it classy for the vets, as always.

How in the name of sanity can any gay man support the Republican party after the events of just this week alone? I'm looking at you GoProud and LCR.
