Out crooner Rufus Wainwright's resistance to the marriage equality movement had been well-documented, but now that he's happily partenered, his song has changed.

Speaking with Starpulse, Wainwright says "I wasn't a huge gay marriage supporter before I met Jorn because I love the whole old-school promiscuous Oscar Wilde freak show of what 'being gay' once was. But since meeting Jorn that all changed."

"I have been with Jorn for five years and he's the light of my life. He's my inspiration, support and he's good in the sack, too! But I am very aware of living in the US, of the conundrum that you can't marry your gay partner and give him citizenship. He has to apply for a green card and he may or may not get accepted, which is annoying when you're in a committed relationship. If we were straight, we could get married and he'd get his American passport and it would make a lot of sense."

You should have thought about that in the first place, asswipe. Just because you didn't WANT to get married didn't mean other gays didn't. What a tool.

Basically what he's done is what I said: it's called ACTUALLY GROWNING UP and FALLIN IN LOVE with someone and realizing what's REAL IMPORTANT to oneself what sacrifices we make for someone we care deeply for....DUH! smilies/tongue.gif

I don't blame Rufus... Things DO happen in life, and changes just come up, depending on the situation.

By the way, there REALLY are plenty of us who ARE for marriage but have no intention of getting married ourselves, for a variety of reasons. As a result, the populations of both "for" and "against" camps are probably more fluid than you might think...

Glad he's changed his tune. Not impressed that he couldn't be a supporter before he fell in love. If we didn't have self-loathers within our ranks, we'd be a lot more united. Years ago, before I had given the matter much thought and what it meant to me, all it took was a friend saying "really!!?". Like a big slap in the face, and all of a sudden, I realized, uh....YEAH!".

There's nothing wrong with changing your mind...and he did...why all the criticism?

Because he said that we shouldn't care about getting married, JT. That's why. Selfishly he didn't realize getting married is less about marriage and more about equal rights. But now that his huny bf might get deported, he thinks... "Wow, I don't want that to happen to me." But he didn't care at all about the 1000s of other gay men and women in the same situation. Short sighted and selfish.
