The story has been trending on Twitter since late Sunday and we were hoping it wasn't true, but a confirmation from Logo reveals that Sahara Davenport, a RuPaul's Drag Race season two alum and the real life romantic partner of Manila Luzon, passed away over the weekend.
Details are few and far between as the RPDR family collects itself to deal with the tragedy, but Logo took a moment to release a statement for fans.
“Logo is profoundly saddened by the passing of Antoine Ashley who fans around the world knew and loved as Sahara Davenport. He was an amazing artist and entertainer who’ll be deeply missed by his Logo family. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, especially his boyfriend Karl, in their time of need.”
A handful of stars from the franchise have were among the first to break the news on Twitter. Wrote RuPaul on Twitter, "Shocked and heartbroken over @SaharaDavenport. Never ocurred to me that we'd ever lose one of my girls. I see them as immortal." Season one winner Bebe Zahara Benet wrote [sic], “I am deeply saddened and at a lost for words. @SaharaDavenport – I Love you sis.” Drag Race All Star Jujubee tweeted on Monday, “A beautiful angel has been added to Heaven. Rest in peace my sweet friend. We will miss you, Sahara Davenport." Michelle Visage, a regular judge of the show since its premiere, tweeted, "It’s true and I have no words. Have to sign off for now kids, can’t handle this. XOXO.”
Manila Luzon's Facebook and Twitter pages have been flooded with outpours of love from concerned fans after her most recent message (written on Sunday night) conveyed the absolutely heartbreaking emotion of the situation. "I love him so much," Manila wrote.
Sahara Davenport (a.k.a. Antoine Ashley) was 27 years old.
