Ugh, per usual, whenever LGBT people get any recognition, the conservatives want to make it all about them and their narrow-minded families. Stop raining on our parade! After the jump, California state Senator Mark Leno talks about the newly mandated LGBT history lessons in CA public schools and, also, find out what the L.A. archbishop is saying about it.

Senator Leno does a great job explaining why these history lessons are necessary not just for LGBT youth but for straight youth. Don't censor history!

And now for the crazy: OnTopMag reports that Los Angeles Archbishop Jose H. Gomez condemned the measure as an attack on the family. Wait for it...“The family is God's first beautiful gift to us,” Gomez writes. “Because each one of us came into this world as the fruit of a mother and a father's love.” We have no frickin' clue what this has to do with anything.

And now for the irony: “America needs strong families to nurture the values and virtues we need to live as a free and just people.” Free and just, really?!

The measure, Gomez said, is a “dangerous government intrusion into parents' rights. This amounts to the government rewriting history books based on pressure-group politics. It is also another example of the government interfering with parents' rights to be their children's primary educators.”

Gomez, umm, what would you have them do? Should the conservative parents come to public schools and teach the kids or force the kids to stay home and be taught by Bible thumpers who will leave out any history, or science for that matter, that is not corroborated in the Old and New Testament? Someone needs to turn off your mic.

Oddly enough, if there was a mandate to teach history from the perspective of any other minority group - American Indian, Black, Asian, etc. - people would be applauding the introduction of diversity into our school systems.

And as far as the comment that this is the government interfering with parents' rights as primary educators, then that can be argued for any form of curriculum introduced. For example, "I don't agree with the aggressive and competitive nature of sports, so I'm offended that the school forces my child to participate in PE." This is ironic coming from a Catholic where they force their beliefs in their private schools. They'll gladly accept any student whose family can pay the tuition regardless of the family's actual religious belief and then force religion classes and weekly/monthly mass as a part of the curriculum.

I, for one, am tired of being portrayed as a villain. I am a contributing member of society. I pay my taxes. I volunteer. I donate to charity. My first instinct is to do the right thing. I treat others with respect and give people the benefit of the doubt. I expect the same in return...but apparently, that's asking too much.

Christmas is probably the most special day of the year for children. One thing that makes it special is the popular tradition of Santa Claus. ,http://www.belstaffjackets-sale.com
