Gay Republican Sheriff Paul Babeu has decided to end his Congressional campaign in Arizona

More after the jump.

Sheriff Babeu was the subject of heightened scrutiny following allegations that he threatened to get his gay ex-lover, a Mexican immigrant with questionable immigration status, deported.

The controversy led to a decrease in Babeu's fundraising, though he did find support from the Log Cabin Republicans.

In a letter to voters, Babeu explained his decision to end his campaign, citing a desire to seek re-election for the office of Sheriff, in Pinal County, Arizona.

We'll see how things turn out.
