Before the heinous Proposition 8 was slimly voted into law in California, iconic guitarist Slash and his wife Perla Ferrar posted a video on YouTube asking Californians to vote no on the homophobic measure. In the video, Perla did the schmoozing while Slash remained in the background, silent but for his guitar. In the aftermath of both the video and the passage of Prop 8, the unashamedly macho idol of many men worldwide received complaints and an anti-gay backlash for posting the message of equality. It only intensified his resolve.

But the time has come for Slash to ditch his guitar and vocalize his support for marriage equality. In an interview with The Quietus, Slash reaffirms his allegiance to the GLBT community, saying that “the laws on homosexual marriage are just stupid.” He goes on to say:

“Now, I’ve been in Los Angeles for a lot of years and with West Hollywood being very close – and having lived in West Hollywood – I have a lot of gay friends; my wife especially has a lot of gay friends and when that was all going on we just felt that we should be supportive. At this point it’s ridiculous that two people, regardless of their sex, can’t get married. It just seems stupid.

“Regardless of my personal beliefs on marriage, no one has the right to tell two people that they can’t get married.”

Kudos, Slash!

I have heard Slash speak out on this and many issues on the radio in the past. So this doesn't surprise me. Many people probably would not take him seriously because of how he looks. But if you ever heard him speak, you will find him to be the most sane, articulate and incredibly intelligent person out there.

Slash has always had our back. I've run into him before in Hollywood and he's a cool guy.
