Let’s state the obvious first: Basically anyone in a Tyler Perry movie or television show got nominated for a 2011 NAACP Image Award. More interesting, however, from the newly announced nominees are some of the people competing against the likes of Ms. Jackson, Whoopi and company.
Surprise #1: Justin Timberlake lands an acting nomination for The Social Network. (Umm...he’s not black. Or any ethnic minority as far as we can tell.)
Surprise #2: The Kids Are All Right gets a Best Picture nomination (Great for exposure, but how exactly does this fit?!)
Surprise #3: Willow—as in whip-my-hair Willow Smith—is up for Best New Artist. Enough said.
