Guess Freud was right: People who hold such hate toward something often actually possess desire for it. Check out what Psychology Today is reporting about homophobic men, after the jump.

A new study has found that men who held extreme negative opinions about gay people were often most turned on while viewing gay porn. How does one measure such reaction? It went a little something like this:

Researchers asked heterosexal men how comfortable and anxious they are around gay men. Based on these scores, they then divided the men into two groups: men that are homophobic, and men who are not. These men were then shown three, four-minute videos. One video depicted straight sex, one depicted lesbian sex and one depicted gay male sex. While this was happening, a device was attached to each participant's penis, which has been found to be triggered by sexual arousal, but not other types of arousal (such as nervousness).

When viewing the straight and lesbian videos, both the homophobic and the non-homophobic men showed increased arousal. For gay male sex, however, only the homophobic men showed heightened penis arousal.

Heterosexual men with the most anti-gay attitudes, when asked, reported not being sexually aroused by gay male sex videos. But, their penises reported otherwise.

Is this study just further proof of long-held beliefs that homophobes have something to hide? Or a researcher's way of conducting some “creative” research?

The study that this is citing was conducted in 1996. Really? This is news?

"Sigmund Freud's Sexy Secret: The Price of Obsession" in the Kindle store reveals Sigmund's amorous adventures with a 'summer wife' and intimate details of the love-lives of artist Gustav Klimt and composer Gustav Mahler. Thrilling and inspiring, this fast-paced, fact-based historical novel is the "Desperate Housewives" of Vienna's sexiest, most passionate period. Enjoy!
