Representing! A headline that left us all pleasantly surprised. Read about one transgender athlete making a splash among the international track and field elite.
Competing against women from Canada and Argentina, Keelin is a pre-transition transgender athlete. Which means he hasn't had any hormone therapy to help transition. Had he done this, he would not be allowed to compete in the women's field.
Keelin Godsey placed fifth in the hammer throw at the Pan American Games Tuesday as a member of the United States National Track & Field team. There were 14 women in the competition. Godsey threw a distance of 67.84m, which is his third-best distance ever.
Keelin talked to OutSports about his first international meet:
I was happy with my performance. This was my first international meet, and my biggest goal was to make it to finals. I did that and had one of the best throws of my career. I felt good, I felt like I could have thrown a little farther, but nonetheless I was very happy with how I did. I got a lot of invaluable experience from this meet as well.
Congrats on your personal and professional triumphs, Keelin!
