It looks like this trend (gay Republicans) isn't going away anytime soon. Details after the jump.

PinkNews reports that two of the contenders in San Diego’s mayoral race are openly gay Republicans.

District attorney Bonnie Dumanis and city councilman Carl DeMaio are both open about their sexual orientation but neither has come out as a strong advocate on LGBT issues and many voters might not be aware that they are gay. However Dumanis has spoken out against gay marriage bans.

A recent survey for KGTV/10News says that DeMaio is one of two frontrunners. He and Representative Bob Filner are both on 25 percent and Dumanis comes in with 16 percent

It does seem like LGBT politicians are coming out increasingly non-Democrat; The Victory Fund says there are around 20 openly gay Republican elected officials nationwide.

What's your Instinct? Would you rather have a gay Republican who is quiet about LGBT rights in office or a loud and proud ally? It is San Diego after all.

I don't care if they are loud 'n proud or if they are quiet, just so that thier voting record supports the LGBTQ community.
