It sounds like a stereotypical sassy punch line from one of our stories about Oklahoma bigot Sally Kern, but now it's actually come true: anti-gay New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez has pissed off her hair stylist to the point where he's officially abandoning the lawmaker's hair. Details follow.

Antonio Darden, a Santa Fe-based hair stylist, refuses to cut Martinez's hair after learning that the Republican governor is against marriage equality.

“The governor’s aides called not too long ago, wanting another appointment to come in,” Darden said. “Because of her stances and her views on this I told her aides no. They called the next day, asking if I’d changed my mind about taking the governor in and I said no again.”

“I think it’s just equality, dignity for everyone. I think everybody should be allowed the right to be together. My partner and I have been together for 15 years.”

Darden says he worked on Martinez's mop three times before he launched his protest. Screw glitter-bombing, gay activists: follow Darden's tactic and really hit homophobic lawmakers where it hurts!

This is great but I wonder how many people who repsect this mans right not to cut the governors hair would respect the right of a Christian homophobic hairdresser to not cut a gay persons hair? (I am a gay atheist BTW who believes in property rights for everyone).

@Owen Hopefully the same amount of people that would rally for right of the 'ultimate race' to refuse service to those of Jewish descent. Ideally this would be none. A book of fiction, regardless of how true it's believers find it, is not akin to a basic human right.

@Owen Exactly how many gay people do you think have their hair cut by Christian homophobes?
