Updated Thursday, 2:15 p.m. EST

The two men arrested on a Celebrity X gay cruise for allegedly having sex in view of people on the Dominican shore have been formally charged and sentenced.

The AP reports:

Two Southern California men have pleaded guilty to indecent exposure in Dominica following their arrest during a stop on a gay cruise of the Caribbean.

The men were identified as 41-year-old John Robert Hart and 43-year-old Dennis Jay Mayer of Palm Springs, California.

They were fined nearly $900 and are expected to be released Thursday.

However, according to Dominca News Online, if the men do not pay the $900 fines immediately, they will spend two months in jail.

The charges were later reduced to indecent exposure – the charge on which they were found guilty by a Roseau magistrate. John Robert Hart 41, and Dennis Jay Mayer 43, were fined EC$2,400 each. The fines are to be paid immediately, failing which they will each have to spend two months in jail. The ship, Celebrity X Cruises, carrying about 2,000 passengers departed Puerto Rico on Saturday and arrived in Dominica on Wednesday. It departed for St. Barts without the men, who were at the time being held in a cell at police headquarters in the capital of Roseau.

Stop the presses!

Two gay men had SEX on a gay cruise!  Only, somehow they got arrested for it??

Though the men, ages 41 and 43, were having sex on board their Celebrity Summit cruise ship, they were spotted “in the act” by a witness on the dock in Dominica.  Apparently sex between two men is illegal in Dominica—even if it’s technically in the water.

The Celebrity Summit was in the midst of a Caribbean cruise that began in Puerto Rico. The ship docked in Dominica on Wednesday.

The two men were arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure and "buggery,” which basically means sodomy. As of Wednesday afternoon they were still being questioned.

We’ve got a few of our own questions. How the hell did some witness on a dock see these two having sex on the ship? Were these guys going at it on the guard-rail? And how does the arrest even transpire? You see two men having sex on a boat, call the cops, and then they proceed to bring the boat in and find the guilty parties? Do you go from cabin to cabin looking for the one gay couple having sex? Good luck with that. So many logistical issues.

Also, what kind of questions could the Dominican authorities possibly have?  “Were you two consenting gay adults having sex on a gay cruise?”

Well, what else do you even do on a gay cruise? Hell, any cruise?

The mind boggles.

It seems to me that Atlantis threw them under the bus. I am cancelling a trip with my partner. If we can't be treated equally like any other couple and be intimate on the boat, no need to go. Atlantis, shame on you for your dispicable actions. Money is your priority -- not the safety and concern of your patrons.

I choose to pay a higher price for a customized service/product. A product advertised as focused/friendly/safe for me.

I would be an out of work wardrobe stylist if you hired me for an event, one which is known to abhor stripes, and I selected a striped Gucci suit.
