Updated Thursday, 3:30 p.m. with comment from the Utah Department of Transportation

What does God hate more than construction detours? Gays, according to a road construction sign on University Avenue in Provo, Utah.

YouTube user SaveYourself777 posted a video of what appears to be an illuminated construction sign alternating between two messages: "Follow Detour" and "God Hates Gays."

As we learned from a similar incident in Colorado in December, these marquee signs are not exactly difficult for outsiders to hack and reprogram with their own vitriol.

Regardless of who's responsible, the sign greeting drivers in Provo's East Bay (near Brigham Young University) is nothing short of disgusting. Gay Salt Lake reached out to the Utah Department of Transportation spokesperson Mindy Nelson who said that "the sign was most likely changed by one of the contractor’s employees who thought he or she was playing a prank. A very bad prank that is obviously unacceptable."
