Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White has been hounded by accusations of homophobia for years--and not without reason. White famously recorded a video blog back in 2009 targeting reporter Loretta Hunt with both anti-gay slurs and misogynistic vitriol.
He didn't help his case during "speedo-gate" when he had a bit of a freakout when one of his fighters performed in a speedo (a big "no no" in the macho UFC world).
He addresses his perceived homophobia in a new interview where he's asked to reveal his biggest regret. We'd love to get your take on his answer.
White spoke with Ariel Helwani on Tuesday during Fuel TV's UFC Tonight.
When asked for his biggest regret, White says that it was his use of "the F-word" because it's given people an innacurate perception of who he is.
White says, "You guys have to understand this, but this is the way I am. I have no regrets. The only thing that I regret is in that video blog when I used the F word. That's the only thing throughout the 12 years of running the UFC. The way I came off in that thing, people still think I'm some kind of homophobe, and I'm not. That still bothers me."
What do you think, Instincters? Can White change the public's perception of him as a homophobe? Are you shocked that over a 12 year career, his one regret is the use of a gay slur? Does that admission make his claim more meaningful?
