The entire world (especially us) fell in love with YouTube user AreYouSurprised, who came out to his father live on webcam in a video that instantly went viral. Straight, well, directly off the heels of that successful and inspirational conversation, the brave American gay soldier has decided to try his luck and come out to his mom. So, how did she react? (Hint: she's not exactly thrilled.)

As AreYouSurprised reveals the news to his mom (who must not own a TV or get Internet considering his coming out vid was EVERYWHERE), she recites the lines regularly written on Westboro posterboards, saying, "God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve line."

Sure, she eventually musters up an "I'll love you" and an "I'll always be proud," but she has to deliver the silver linings on a plate of homophobia by ending with her concerns for AreYouSurprised's "spiritual well-being."

As innocent bystanders, we suggest the mother be more-concerned for her own "spiritual well-being," but we understand how the shock of a coming out situation can influence god-fearing folk to say things they haven't really thought through.

Perhaps more in this video than any he's previously posted, AreYouSurprised proves he is the epitome of "American Hero."

You're mother may not be overly proud of you but there are a whole lot of Americans here and abroad that are.. Keep your chin up and fight for what you believe in and if you are you are ever feeling down there are alot of us out here who would are very proud of you.

You are not alone in this...I literally did the same thing to my parents and was glad that I was not hiding from it anymore. My heart felt courage goes out to you and to those that are in this situation.

Mom will always love you though it will take her awhile to get used to the notion. She will question what she did wromg...my Mom did. She will eventually realize you are still the loving son she thought was str8. And that you really haven't changed

Somebody OBVIOUSLY did not watch the video BEFORE writing this. It was filmed the same day as his father's clip, according to the soldier 'within an hour or so'. She wouldn't have needed a TV at that point. He just held her video for more than a week before sharing it.

It took you a lot of courage to tell your parents. Regardless of the circumstances, they will love you no matter what.

I think he made some classic mistakes.
By pointing out that he's known since he was five years old, Mom instantly has to look back at all those years and reassess everything that she's thought, known & experienced with her child, whilst at the same time has to consider the what the future will be AND take on who her son is now.
Also by telling her all his friends already knew, he's inadvertently telling his mother where she comes in the pecking order of his life.
This mother clearly isn't the sharpest knife in the box and the fact she became slightly defensive is understandable.
She's in shock and suffering a form of bereavement.
I wish them both well in the future.

I know how difficult that must have been for you, but you handled it with honesty, love, and understanding! I too knew I was gay when I was 6 years old and came out when I was 16 to my friends first then at 20 I came out to my parents and my Mom just looked at me and said "Oh I know honey" even though her response was very supportive it still did not make it any easier building up to that point of actually coming out and telling her. I hope your family is as supportive to you as mine has been with me! It may take a little time and you may need to educate them a little but eventually they will come around and support you and are still proud that you are their son. Your a brave young man and I wish you and your family the best in dealing with this & I'm sure your going to be fine and live a very happy life..Congratulations you are now a OUT & PROUD Gay Man!! You did the right thing by freeing yourself and allowing you to be who you are! I Respect your courage and bravery!

Congratulations man. I was kicked out of Navy in 1985 for being gay. I was willing to commit my life to the service and give my life to my country. When they kicked me out I felt like my country was telling me I wasn't good enough to die for it.

I am so proud of you and I hope you know how inspirational you are to young people everywhere. It does get better over time.

Congratulations!

This should have been a private conversation between mother and son. I assume the mother thought it was. Why then did the son feel the need to post it on Utube? He may not have meant to set her up but it clearly looks as if he has.

Probably going to open a can of worms here but got to ask this question.

I served in the military over 23 years and got out before DADT. Prior to DADT gay's if caught were discharged and sometimes not honorably. They would be searched out and discharged. Now to my understanding DADT just said what it is. If you don't flaunt it we won't come after you. Here's my question. (Finally you're thinking)

Since DADT is repealed, then doesn't that just revert to the UCMJ (Uniformed Code of Military Justice), that says and has punitive articles, that punishes various sexual behavior including homosexual behavior? Does the new bill change the UCMJ?”

Cons - There have been some complaints by people who claim that the shoe can be destroyed easily. This is seen after vigorous activity. ,http://www.links-london.org.uk
