When Oprah invited Terry McMillan and Jonathan Plummer, the pair that served as the inspiration for How Stella Got Her Groove Back, on her show in September, there was a moment edited out of the interview that viewers never got to see. During the interview with the author wife and her gay ex-husband, Oprah told Jonathan after reviewing his mannerisms and speech, "You seem gayer than you were the last time." Once the live show wrapped, producers and publicists convinced the Big O -- with a bit of struggle -- that they should edit her comment out as it could read as offensive. 

Luckily for us, as Oprah's landmark series wraps up 25 years and promos for the OWN Network continue to saturate our DVRs, producers have been rolling out behind-the-queens moments. This week's peek behind the show show's us the conversation they had over Oprah's "you seem gayer" comment.

I totally got the joke. He was a closeted gay man and now he is out and more happy with who he is. But I also understand how some people can miss the context of that joke. There are a lot of straight people who use the word "gay" in the pejorative and don't see a problem with it. It says more about "O's" integrity that she cared enough to ask other gay staffers to help her understand better. And now she is more enlightened for it.

It is offensive to me as the mother of a gay son. He has been out of the closet since he was a freshman in HS.because he is a national athlete and a jr. In college I thought I was over this but it brings back memories of people saying "He doesn't act gay" what the hell is that, gay people are just like straight
People they all have different personality traits so I don't know whether to feel sorry for her because of her ignorance or to be angry because a woman like oprah should know better. I'm sure she has had many gay employees
