Street art and graffiti, which has in recent years become officially embraced and taken seriously by the mainstream art world, is known for its ability to get people talking. But a new series popping up in L.A., easily one of the world capitals for the art form, is sparking controversy for all the wrong reasons. 

First noticed around La Brea Avenue and 3rd Street and spotted spreading along various construction site boards, the graffiti reads: "FAG the new nigger" above President Obama's 2012 campaign logo. 

What's your take on this street "art" campaign's message, Instincters? Offended?

I think it's completely offensive. And I hope the Obama campaign says something to distance itself from their logo being used.

Are you serious? You guys can't figure out the meaning?
Yes: it means we, the gays, are the new minority. We, the gays, are going through our own struggles that the African American community can relate to.
It also means that using the word "fag" should be viewed as offensive as using the word "nigger" to describe/label a person.

it's not that hard to figure out!
it means that saying "fag" is equally offensive as saying "nigger" and that neither is acceptable.
if you want to make it about minorities, i suppose it could work that way as well.
