With Labor Day marking the unofficial end of summer, the season's hottest and gayest competition (sorry, Gay Softball Finals) has finally wrapped-up. Based on cumulative performance throughout the summer on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, we now know which single receives the tiara as Billboard's "Song of Summer 2011." Is the winning track from Adele, Katy Perry, LMFAO, Nicki Minaj or Pitbull?
If you couldn't tell by the amount of times we appeared in our own "Spotted" features this season, cocktails in hand, we certainly party rocked our way across summer 2011. Obviously, we weren't alone as LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" has been named the Song of Summer!
The high-energy, feel-good song spent six weeks atop the Hot 100 chart, followed by three weeks in the No. 2 slot, all helping it earn the honor.
"We created a tool for people to use to get hyped up at their party, on their boat, at the club, at the gym, etc. People love it... it feels amazing!" a representative for LMFAO told Billboard after receiving the honor. "Because of how hard we worked on mixing the record and the dedication that went into the video, it was clear from the beginning that our goal was to take the party rock sound to number one."
Party Rockin' right behind the summer sizzler were Pitbull's "Give Me Everything," Adele's "Rolling In The Deep," Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass," Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night" in the 2nd through 5th places.
Some of us waged bets on "Edge of Glory" earlier this summer, so we might be slightly surprised by the top five. But who cares what we think? Were these your top five songs of summer 2011?
