New Hampshire governor John Lynch signed a civil unions bill into law yesterday. New Hampshire will join Vermont, Maine, New Jersey, California, and Washington in offering civil unions or domestic partnerships to same-sex couples. Massachusetts is still the only state with full same-sex marriage rights.
"We in New Hampshire have had a long and proud tradition of taking the
lead in opposing discrimination," Lynch said as he signed the bill. "I
do not believe that this bill threatens marriage. I believe that this
is a matter of conscience and fairness."
Well said! Read more here.

Lindsay Lohan's father confirmed today that the starlet is being treated at the exclusive Promises rehab center in Malibu for addictions to, among other things, alcohol and the powerful painkiller OxyContin.
Looks like she ain't feelin no pain in this photo, taken at Lohan's lowest point over the weekend:

(BTW, Lohan's father, who has his own checkered past, and who Lindsay has been quoted as wanting nothing to do with, recently turned born-again Christian (!) after his stint in jail. Classy.)
Also, Paris Hilton's cellmate has been hand-picked by jail officials, according to gossip site TMZ.com . She'll be doing time with a woman who is in the slammer for reckless driving -- someone who officials believe won't cash in on her brush with the heiress. We hope they become BFFs!

David Hyde Pierce, who is up for a Tony for his role in the Broadway musical "Curtains," came out -- sort of -- in an interview with CNN.com yesterday. The story on the actor, who is best known for his role as the neurotic brother Niles on "Frasier," casually mentions that Pierce and his partner, Brian Hargrove, moved to L.A. in the early '90s to get involved in TV. (Worked out well for both of them; Hargrove was a producer on "Caroline in the City" and "Titus".)
We're glad that Pierce is comfortable with his sexuality enough to let it be merely stated as fact; reminds us of Neil Patrick Harris' "I am a very content gay man" coming-out interview in People. Hard for anyone to criticize him for that!
(And David, we always kinda knew...)
