While there's still no cure for HIV, scientists have made a huge leap forward in the field. German scientists have found a way to remove the virus from infected cells, but the enzyme they've been using is a long way from being safe to use on people. Add to that the very nature of HIV itself--bonding with the host's cells to a point where it's almost impossible to remove--and you still have a very complex problem. So while this breakthough is no magic bullet, it's definitely an exciting development, one that could help with the problem of the virus that has infected over 40 million men, women and children infected worldwide.
What's your opinion? Do you think a cure will be found in our lifetime? I definitely hope so.

Just in from the folks at WOW Report:
"That was a genuine death threat made on RuPaul at his San Francisco screening of Starrbooty,"
says Randy Barbato [co-head of production company World of Wonder, who have been long-time RuPaul collabs], who was there. "After the screening, he was whisked
upstairs to a holding area where there were six policepersons ready to
protect him. They waited 20 minutes before escorting him to his car.
Here's a shot of Ru with one of his protectors."
Ru was at the SF Frameline gay film fest promoting her new film, which is a kind of Barbarella-meets-James-Bond raunch fest extravaganza (directed by upcoming July Instinct Cover Guy Mike Ruiz). RuPaul interviews Ruiz for the story in the issue, which hits stands soon!

A new study out of the UK finds that 2/3 of gay youth have been bullied in school, and 41% of gay youth have even been physically attacked. 17% have receieved death threats. The story continues:
"Even if gay pupils are not directly experiencing bullying, they are
learning in an environment where homophobic language and comments are
commonplace," the report said.
"Ninety-eight per cent of young gay people hear the
phrases 'that's so gay' or 'you're so gay' in school, and over four
fifths hear such comments often or frequently."
Half of teachers had failed to respond to homophobic
language when they heard it and less than a quarter of schools had told
pupils that homophobic bullying was wrong.
Something tells us the statistics are probably the same on this side of the pond.

Former Grey's Anatomy star Isaiah Washington, who got put through the media wringer for calling fellow star T.R. Knight a "faggot" a while back, should have learned that running off his big mouth never gets him anyplace good. In an exclusive interview with gay journalist (and former Instinct leading man) Keith Boykin, he seals his rep as a pretty petty dude:
"This is something that T.R. Knight has been trying to do and using
the incident of the so-called F-word that was targeted at him, which is
a flat out lie, to blackmail the writers into doing his bidding, and
it's not working. The producers are not happy about it, and quite
frankly, they all think that something has gone awfully awry with the
stability of T.R. Knight. And I can freely say this now because I am no
longer a Disney employee and I am no longer gagged. But everyone there,
including the producers, all the way up to Touchstone, are very
disappointed in the behavior of T.R. Knight."
"And let me be clear Keith. All of this I'm saying to you has
absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he's gay. He came out
October 19 as purely a tactical move to do exactly what it did, get
public opinion in an outrage to lead them to believe that he is being
picked on because he is gay. He could care less about the gay
community."
Come on, Isaiah. Just let it go. (And BTW - T.R. still has a job!)

Rosie met with network execs regarding her potentially hosting "The Price Is Right" last week, and they couldn't reach an agreement. Apparently, Rosie didn't want to move to L.A. This is from her blog:
Here’s the thing. I don’t really need a job. I’m in a weird position. I
don’t need the money. I know you’re not allowed to talk about money in
America. But I’m just saying I don’t. So to get my entire family
uprooted from their lives and move them across the country so that I
can have a fantasy childhood indulgence job just doesn’t seem fair.
Ah Rosie: Selfless. Saintly. Willfully unemployed.
