For our follow up to our Kimberly Cole interview in the June issue, Cole agreed to an early morning chat, before all the make-up, hair and style people arrive to get her going with her increasingly bust schedule. As we found out, early is a relative term. We caught her by phone on what turns out to be a Pride-themed day.
Okay, we hear you’re just waking up. What time did you go to bed last night and when did you get up today?
I went to sleep at about 3 a.m. and I just woke up about 30 minutes ago at 11 a.m. Late night!
What are you doing right now?
Sitting in my car with a diet Dr. Pepper and my protein bar from 7-11 getting ready to go to a NoH8 photo shoot with Adam Bouska.
You know our editor and many of the magazine staff did that same thing?
How great! Yeah, Adam hit me up on Twitter and I’m soooooo exited to be included and show support. Now I just need a white shirt.
What is the last thing you had for breakfast?
I had a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch but I had it at 3 a.m. Does that still count as breakfast?
We’ll let it slide. Since we know you are all about the hair, what’s happening with it right now?
Oh my God, it’s terrible! I slept on it, it has kinky curls. It’s very messy, but it’s an okay mess. I threw on a headband. But don’t worry, I’m getting it done before the photo shoot!
Is it a going to be a Mohawk?
Mohawk is my life. [Laughs]
Let’s play random. Any pets?
I have two little kitties, Whiskey and Lilly. They’re just a year old. They’re so cute!

RuPaul! I think we’d laugh a lot. Oh no, wait! But Elton John would write great songs! I don’t know…that’s not fair! [Laughs]
Same question: Jane Lynch from Glee, or Jane Lynch’s character from Glee?
They’re the same person, right? [Laughs] No, of course, Jane Lynch! She’s hysterical. I love her.
What are your thoughts on "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell"?
I’m all for being who you are, wherever you are. I want us to get to a point where everyone can just be respected, no matter who they are or who they love.
Okay, last question: You’re at a fabulous gay wedding and the grooms both look great. What are you wearing?
I’m in a short pink mini dress.
Is you hair a Mohawk?
Oh yeah! Complete ‘80s. Maybe some gloves, too.
