You can’t go to a gay club in New York City these days without running into camptastic performer Britney Houston doing a live routine to a Top 40 hit like “Stronger” or “Baby Boy.” Meanwhile, her hilarious video send-up of sass anthem “Lip Gloss” is ruling YouTube. She’s a star on the rise, and we pop-quizzed her in between her day job (touring in the company of a big-name musical) and the premiere of her video parody of “Umbrella” at Therapy, which has since gone on to get over a million views online!

2. Who is the hardest celebrity to imitate?
Whitney Houston is tough.It’s easy to be cliché; I could just pull out some crack and do it, and everyone’s like, “Oh, my God, your Whitney Houston is fabulous!” But her mannerisms are very specific: the way she does her diction—her mouth, her hand movements—she flitters a lot. I mean, she is kind of coked out, but she’s very intense, and I’m much more of a dancer. I don’t have much problem doing Janet or Britney stuff or even Tina Turner stuff.

Neither! She needs to sit down. We don’t really care! I mean, fat Star Jones was cool—she’s representin’ with the big girls, she got in a couple of words here and there, but then she got real cocky and “It’s all about me.”

Ooh! That’s a tough one. I would say greater than, just because I think Beyoncé represents a different era, a different generation. But you can’t compare them. The fact is that Madonna is inevitable; she’s like Elvis. Beyoncé has that cool, but she hasn’t had a 25-year career. Let’s just say “less than.”

[Laughs] I was out the other night at a bar, and I literally walked in the door, walked up the stairs, and a group of boys just gasped and jumped for joy, and they were like, “Britney Houston! Oh, my God! We just left the house and watched your video!” And no sooner than I turn around, another guy who was sitting at a table across was like, “Oh, my God! You’re Britney Houston!”
8. Free response: Why do gays like the divas?
Because the divas are so upfront, ready, focused and don’t take shit from anybody. I think it’s because of the confidence. People look up to it. Especially being a gay person, you kind of grow up being overshadowed, picked on, pushed down. It’s a supportive thing to see people who are grand and confident in who they are.
