ImageCHARLIE IN CHARGE

Former Instinct cover guy and star of the sultry, supernatural soap opera Dante’s Cove, CHARLIE DAVID appears in the new film A Four Letter Word, a madcap gay romantic comedy set in New York City. We rang up Charlie and put him to the test. From boy bands to strip Yahtzee, we found a whole new side to this out hunk!

INSTINCT: 1. What was the last DVD that you bought?
CHARLIE DAVID: Rick & Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple In All The World—Allan Brocka’s series. I was on a cruise, and it was the perfect thing to have with me, because it was one of these big family cruises—and it wasn’t Rosie’s.

2. At midnight on any given Friday, you will probably find me _________.
Playing board games with friends—strip Yahtzee. I don’t know how to play the game, I just like to shake the dice.

3. Who is your dream collaborator?
I adore Gael García Bernal. I think he’s one of the most talented actors of our generation. I respect the studying that he’s done internationally, how he’s multilingual and kind of gorgeous at the same time.

4. What is the boldest thing any fan has ever done for or to you?
Well, when I used to be in a boy band, I used to be given panties once in a while, or asked to sign women’s breasts. We were opening for Rick Springfield at the time, so it kind of makes sense. That was his thing, all the women throwing panties. Suddenly, for me, we were faced with the same dilemma—signing breasts. [We were] called 4Now. Like the name, we were relatively temporary. [Laughs] We were opening for Destiny’s Child, Black Eyed Peas…and Sisqó! The summer of “The Thong Song”!

5. The best make-out album is _________.
I really like Sarah McLachlan Remixed. She’s a fellow Canadian!

6. Zac Efron: Just Right? Or Jailbait?

I think that’s jailbait still. But, oh my gosh, what a prison cell we could share!

7. My idea of comfort food is _________.
You’re probably not going to know what this is: tourtière. It’s a French meat pie from Quebec. It’s like a pastry, with pork and beef and potato inside. That, or liver and onions. I know—completely weird.

8. Janet or J. Lo?
Janet. Rhythm Nation. I listened and listened and listened to that. I used to make tapes of my favorite songs that I would play over and over again.

9. A movie I can never get tired of watching is _________.
I probably have really strange ones. Jesus Christ Superstar. I have to watch it every Easter. The Wiz. Parts of that movie are pretty horrible, but the music is great. Look at me—a musical queen.

10. What is your favorite four-letter word?
Love. I think for most people that would be it, I hope.
