Teen Couple Transitions Together
Arin Andrews, 17, and Katie Hill, 19, have never been more comfortable in their own skin. The couple, who met at a transgender teen support group in Tulsa, OK, have been with each other through thick and thin...and reassignment surgeries. Now, nearly finished with medical procedures that fully realize who they are, the couple has decided to share their story with the hope of inspiring others.
“Now when I’m out in a public pool or lifting weights, no one raises an eyebrow," Arin told the Sun. "They just think I’m a guy. I can wear a tank top, which I couldn’t before, and I can go swimming shirtless. I can just be a regular guy. And I’m so lucky to have my family and Katie to rely on.”
“To me, Arin’s just my Arin," Katie said. "He’s always looked manly to me. But now he’s had the surgery he’s much more confident and comfortable with himself."
“Being transgender myself, I understand Arin better than anybody else," she added, "how good he feels and how complete he feels.”
The couple says that their families have been nothing but supportive and are thrilled that the pair has found each other.
But it's still work.
"There are still people we don’t interact with any more," said Arin's mother, Denise. "I know they questioned me as a parent.”
