Hallmark Scrubs "Gay" From Its "Deck The Halls" Lyric Ornament

Hallmark's 2013 Keepsake Ornaments line isn't as traditional as shoppers might have imagined. For the "Holiday Sweater" offering in this year's line, Hallmark has decided to scrub "gay" from the well-known "Deck the Halls" lyrics. Instead, the ornament reads "Don we now our fun apparel" (in place of "Don we now our gay apparel").

"When the lyrics to 'Deck the Halls' were translated from Gaelic and published in English back in the 1800s, the word 'gay' meant festive or merry," Hallmark spokeswoman Kristi Ernsting told The Huffington Post. "Today it has multiple meanings ... the trend of wearing festively decorated Christmas sweaters to parties is all about fun, and this ornament is intended to play into that, so the planning team decided to say what we meant: 'fun.' That’s the spirit we intended and the spirit in which we hope ornament buyers will take it."

What do you think of Hallmark's de-gaying of the classic holiday song?

Obviously, there was no LGBT person in the room when Hallmark made this incredibly idiotic decision.

they should just have changed the lyric entirely. Like used a different song.
