Paula Deen Compares Herself To "Black Football Player Who Came Out" Michael Sam
When you're in the first five minutes of your "Comeback Tour 2014" following a six-month departure from the national spotlight for accusations of racism, maybe you should avoid comparing yourself to black gay athletes until the 2015 version of the PR event.
That's just me, though. A noticeably thinner Paula Deen and her million-dollar damage control team think otherwise.
In an interview with People Magazine that hits stands on Friday, Paula Deen says she's just like Michael Sam, the openly gay NFL prospect who's taken the world by storm since early February.
"I feel like 'embattled' or 'disgraced' will always follow my name," Paula tells People. "It's like that black football player who recently came out. He said, 'I just want to be known as a football player. I don't want to be known as a gay football player.' I know exactly what he's saying."
Yep, you read that right: wealthy white celebrity and alleged racist Paula Deen can totally relate to gay African American Michael Sam, who says he doesn't want any one of his minority statuses coming before being a football player.
The mind boggles.
Is this the right strategy for Paula to fall back in our good graces, Instincters?
