WV High School Science Teacher Under Investigation After Homophobic Rant Against Gay-Straight Alliance Student Club
David Foggin, a science teacher at Parkersburg South High School in Wood County, West Virginia, is in hot water after an anti-gay rant he posted to Facebook. Wood County School District authorities have launched an investigation into Foggin (pictured above, if you can make him out despite the amazing camouflage!) after the public educator ripped apart his high school's Gay-Straight Alliance Club in an anti-gay social media rant.
“Club meeting at PSHS!! Rally around them and show ur support. We are also considering a drunks-t totaller club, drugged/sober club, smokeless tobacco vs smokes club, street racing, and deer poaching clubs. Please donate and support us. Thank u!!! I think I hear the drag already zinging,” Foggin wrote on Facebook.
Thousands of people swarmed Foggin's status update to comment in support of his anti-gay and bullying message.
Though the school's principal hasn't commented on the issue, Superintendent Pat Law did say that "the situation is under investigation and therefore we can not comment further at this time." Foggin himself has remained silent, only telling reporters that he "just can't comment right now."
Justin McKown, an English teacher at the high school and leader of the GSA did speak out, however. "I’m encouraging students to stand-up for what they feel. If I didn’t do something or didn’t say something and make the community aware of what they stand for then there could be a misrepresentation of what they are."
