Jason Collins Received Anti-Gay Taunts From An NBA Player

While Jason Collins' re-entrance to the NBA via the Brooklyn Nets as an openly gay player has been pretty seamless, he acknowledges in an interview with the New York Daily News that he's been on the receiving end of anti-gay taunts from one opposing team player.

“One player, one knucklehead from another team,” Collins said in an interview with the Daily News. “He’s a knucklehead. So I just let it go. Again, that goes back to controlling what you can control. That’s how I conduct myself just being professional.”

Jason declined to name the player so as not to give the "knucklehead" any additional attention.

He also acknowledges his victory in proving that an openly gay player isn't a "distraction" for a professional sports team.

“Not just for myself, but I think for everyone. This shows that ‘distraction’ is B.S. That it’s about the team, it’s about the sport,” said Collins, who signed for the rest of the season last week. “I hope this shows all players that you can still have your life off the court and not have to hide anything. And still have your life on the court or on the field or on the ice, I guess, in hockey. That’s a credit to my teammates and the entire Nets organization from ownership to coaching to teammates to everyone.

Looks like Jason's staying focused on what's important and we're glad one ignorant player isn't impacting his experience.

Jason is definitely a Class Act.

I'm sure that player was trying to rattle Jason but he went about it in the wrong way
