Is Nancy Pelosi's Response To Michele Bachmann's SCOTUS Reaction The Best Thing Ever?

Yes, it is.

Michele Bachmann issued an unsurprisingly asinine statement on Wednesday shortly after the Supreme Court struck down DOMA and dismissed Proposition 8.

It reads:

Marriage was created by the hand of God. No man, not even a Supreme Court, can undo what a holy God has instituted. For thousands of years of recorded human history, no society has defended the legal standard of marriage as anything other than between man and woman. Only since 2000 have we seen a redefinition of this foundational unit of society in various nations," she continued. "Today, the U.S. Supreme Court decided to join the trend, despite the clear will of the people's representatives through DOMA. What the Court has done will undermine the best interest of children and the best interests of the United States.

When asked how she feels about Bachmann's statement, Rep. Nancy Pelosi simply replied, "Who cares?"

No tea, no shade.

Michelle Bachman has her religious views. But she lives in a country where religious freedom means that her beliefs should impede the beliefs of others. I am a gay man, born this way, and I have the right to live the life I want as long as I don't harm anyone else. I'm not a murderer, thief or a liar. I'm a gay man, and that's not a sin.

THANK YOU! I just love you! Thank you for acknowledging that Michele Bachman is entitled to her opinion and her religious beliefs, without belittlement, (even if others don't agree) because this is America! Just as you are entitled to yours, which is what the ruling is about! Freedom. Bachman is entitled to her freedom, and when we forget that, or belittle it, it ruins the whole idea behind the victory.

Not that Pelosi's reaction wasn't just fine, as well. Still, belittling people for having religious beliefs is every bit as bad as belittling people for having the courage of any other conviction. Standing up for her religious beliefs is fine. It's not different than standing up for gay marriage. It's two sides of the same coin, and if one side is going to shout, "RESPECT ME!" then that same side cannot go around disrespecting the other side, or it loses all credibility. In the struggle for equality, do not allow yourself to become what you claim to hate.

Sam - Your post is a model of everything I love about this country and it's exactly (in my humble opinion) how a person should go about expressing him/herself without stampeding on the rights and beliefs of others.

Oh, finally, finally .. someone who treats these absurdists with the focus and emphasis they deserve .. nothing!  If only we'd been doing this all along, we'd have been spared endless blathering by these lame, ridiculous, nonsensical, and in some cases frankly mentally disturbed people who somehow managed to grab a measure of undeserved national attention (mostly for their idiotic pronouncements) and now desperately need to return to the obscurity to which they belong.  Thank you, Nancy .. !

I just love how nonchalantly she says "who cares"...she really means it, lol.

Imaginary creations should not dictate to reality based life forms.

Poor losers will always be poor losers. If God had intended a different outcome, He would have seen to it.
