Barilla Pasta Chairman Comes Out As Anti-Gay

Barilla Pasta is fully committed to keeping the gays off of carbs!

The company's chairman Guido Barilla publicly come out as anti-gay on Wednesday.

According to The Independent:

Guido Barilla, whose firm has almost half the Italian pasta market and a quarter of that in the US, told Italy’s La Zanzara radio show last night: “I would never do an advert with a homosexual family…if the gays don’t like it they can go and eat another brand.

“For us the concept of the sacred family remains one of the fundamental values of the company.”

He added: “Everyone has the right to do what they want without disturbing those around them”. But then the pasta magnate upped the ante by attacking gay adoption. “I have no respect for adoption by gay families because this concerns a person who is not able to choose," he said.

Apparently the company's already feeling the backlash, hence their swift apology today.

Guido Barilla says:

“I’m sorry if my comments on La Zanzara have created misunderstanding or polemic, or if I’ve offended anyone. In the interview I only wanted to underline the central role of the woman in the family."

Nah. We're good.

We'll eat literally any other pasta brand now. Thanks.

Gays, you know what to do.

Diagonal Tube Pasta

Hmmm...the guy clearly dis likes Gays. And thinks women have a place to be. And Clearly this guy THINKS most "Men" feel the same. Men need to have a "Little woman". Well here`s ans Idea. Ya stupid fool! MOST women want to rip the Nuts OFF of "men" like you. And Gay MEN look at your sad ass and wonder...where the HELL did God Go Wrong with YOU??! Your pasta was just boiled and drained in my house...and I tossed it out for the Chickens to eat. And the rest will go on my Compost pile. Your little "blue box" will NEVER come into my house again. (No Matter HOW MUCH butt kissing and Back Peddleing yous do.) Thank God male who think your way and are a dropping number. I would rather Have a GAY FAMILY in my home. THEM YA KNOW have the kids because they LOVE them and want them to have A GREAT LIFE! LOVE is the MOST Important thing. And that Jack ass does NOT get it. (I hope it HITS HIM HARD in the Bank!)

Will be donating the Barilla boxes on my shelves, and won't ever purchase them again.

Ciao Guido.....

Ciao Guido....

I won't be purchasing any of their product any time soon. The boss said if gay's don't like it eat another brand. Now lets do the math, If one gay person decides not to eat their product and 3 family or friends boycott them also multiply that by lets say a thousand gays and 3 thousand family and friends by $5 per.......It may not sound like much but it adds up. I know it costs me roughly 11 bucks to make a pot of pasta and sauce and we have pasta 2-3 times a month.

Ok Guido ... you put your cards on the table. Just know that your products will not be going on mine ... comprendere ?

Many straight supporters of gay rights will also boycott. I'll be one of them! I love my friends and family members who are gay. I love their beautiful families.

My kids and I love pasta, but it doesn't need to be Barilla pasta. I'm a single mom of trans-racially adopted kids. Guido probably wouldn't approve of my family either!

Please people, take a few deep breaths.

Seriously? This isn't something to take lightly, Robert. He not only stated that LGBTQ people do not deserve to be represented, he devalued women as well. He is a part of why women constantly have to fight for basic rights, why anyone who is not a straight, cis white man faces the prospect of scorn, abuse, and even imprisonment & death in some countries.

So yeah, I'll take a few deep breaths as I happily pass by Barilla products in the grocery store in favor of companies who care about ALL people.

Not only did he offend gays but he put women in their roles....cooks and mommy's  what an ahole

I never used Barilla. Why pay double for a product that IS EXACTLY the same as the cheaper brands. Its noodles, for crying out loud.

Exactly! I buy Ronzoni Garden Delight pasta. It's the cheapest pasta that is made with vegetable powders.

His words "if the gays don’t like it they can go and eat another brand"

My words "HASTA LA PASTA BARILLA" Rice a Roni, here i come!

Was that really an apology? I don't think so.

Oh, I am SO having a "Pretty Woman" moment over this one.  After reading the first few paragraphs of the article, I looked over at the row of jars holding various types of pasta (eight) in my kitchen, & thought - "Big Mistake, Guido. I bet you have NO idea how much of a market share you just lost."  Then I read on about his "apology."  Obviously, he has already started getting an idea.  But let's all make the point really, REALLY clear, shall we?

Hasta Barilla Baby.

I don't understand what the deal is; he isn't actually obligated by any means to feature a gay couple. Had he been refusing to hire anyone that was gay or allowed abuse or something like that, I would have understood but if he isn't allowing for a gay couple in advertisements, then it gets a bit problematic and, if anything, will be soon seen as an overreaction. He's holding a view that is featured in many countries, societies and peoples (especially not of the western world or hold on to their viewpoints) and boycotting several companies (especially Eastern-made products or traditional products of several countries) would not really benefit anything. This isn't so much a political issue as it is becoming a strong-arming of companies to feature something that everyone knows is particularly controversial.

How do you know he isn't refusing to hire LGT people...if he has that kind of attitude...F%#K HIM! Barilla was the only pasta I I'll find a different brand. I don't give a rats ass who you use in your advertisements...but don't EVEN try to give me this crap about the correct parts that make a family. My mother had to be both parents, working full time and struggling to purchase her own home on a woman's income which was significantly less than a man's back in 1979 when my mom filed for divorce to my alcoholic, cheating, physically abusive father, a man which I have not seen or heard from since. I was four years old at the time, and though we had to save for things...we didn't neglect our material items and took care of them...and when I say we, I mean MY mother and I.    MY FAMILY is just as good as one with a mother and a father, two mothers, or two fathers...but that doesn't mean that other families are wrong...your family is a unit made up of the person/people who raise you with good morals and a strong sense of self, which like the world's population, comes in all colors, shapes, & sizes! So guess what Guido, take your pasta, and cram it where the sun don't shine!

I am not actually obligated to buy his pasta and put money in his pocket. So I won't. Why does he have the right to choose what type of family he considers acceptable, but we don't have the right to choose what company to patronize? I'm not trying to change his views. I don't think anyone is.

Why would you say that? He is clearly homophobic. He has no respect for us therefore he clearly does not deserve our business. Do you eat at Chickfila also?

AMEN, Robert!!!!!

I don't understand comments like this.  He clearly thinks that gays and lesbians, at the very least, make inferior families.  So, as gay people, it makes perfect sense to not give our business to those that treat us as their inferiors.  That's not strong-arming.  That's saying, "you don't respect me and I don't respect you".

Well said, Tom!! Your statement is EXACTLY what is one of the main issues that people forget: RESPECT. You may not understand or agree with LGBTQ people, but they do not deserve any less respect as human beings. While this is just one little company in the sea of merchandising, you can still let them know that this is unacceptable. In the end, we're all human beings.

The guy's named "Guido."  That should tell you something right there.

We know not to make a huge deal about this like we did with Chic Fil A, because that backfired and created a new religious holiday? We know to just ignore it and continue in our lives as normal knowing that bigotry is decreasing every day without our making mountains out of the molehills of CEOs and chairmen who cannot actually control the money of a company to donate money to anti gay things and only use their own money (which will happen whether we support them or not) to do whatever anti gay political things their hearts desire because this is a free country?

Somehow I doubt this is what you meant by "you know what to do."

Libertarian much?  The CEO's comments are simple, decisive, and any moron with a 4th grade education can read through them. He doesn't approve of my family, nor think gay family's should even adopt. Thus, his pasta's & pasta sauce will NEVER find their way to my table. His remarks where made in a public arena and credited to the entire company. His apology was insincere and designed to further demean the construct of family. So, on your way to eat a Chick'fil-a limp lop of lard, perhaps you'll stumble over that company paid Christian who calls you a fag?

Purchasing the product made by a company owned and operated by a bigot only serves to further pad the wallet of that individual. I don't see how you can think otherwise.

CEOs do, quite often, control how monies for political and non-profit donations are spent. To say otherwise only shows that you don't know how business works.

Money talks. My money will not be going to support him or his company.
