Tea Party Leader Wants To File Class Action Lawsuit Against Homosexuality

If a clerk has been trying to serve you papers recently, this might be why: Rick Scarborough, former Baptist pastor and the influential head of one of America's most prominent Tea Party organizations, is demanding a class action lawsuit against homosexuality. Let's overlook the obvious logistical, rational and legal complications that immediately arise to look at why Scarborough, who once described AIDS as "God's judgment," wants to sue the rainbow.

At a recent big Tea Party event, Scarborough caught up with notorious anti-gay activist Peter LaBarbera (of the hate group Americans for Truth About Homosexuality) to discuss the class action.

"Peter, the whole issue of a class action lawsuit, you and I have talked about this a little bit," Scarborough said. "I just wonder if you’ve explored that, talked to anyone about it."

"Obviously, statistically now even the Centers for Disease Control verifies that homosexuality much more likely leads to AIDS than smoking leads to cancer," he continued. "And yet the entire nation has rejected smoking, billions of dollars are put into a trust fund to help cancer victims and the tobacco industry was held accountable for that. Any thoughts on that kind of an approach?"

"Yeah I think that’s great. I would love to see it," LaBarbera replied. "We always wanted to see one of the kid in high school who was counseled by the official school counselor to just be gay, then he comes down with HIV. But we never really got the client for that."

There is so much misinformation, ignorance and pure animus involved in this discussion that we don't even know where to begin. But pointing out that the CDC actually doesn't verify that homosexuality leads to AIDS is a good place to start.

What do you think about the homophobic movement's hope to launch a class action against homosexuality? Who would they even sue?

Is this man for real? Just another right-wing nut job. I am so thankful that I am a liberal.

How about a countersuit by gays everywhere against heterosexuals for centuries of bullying, persecution, discrimination, torture, imprisonment, mental cruelty and murder?

If someone would file a class action lawsuit against stupidity, half of the US citizens, but 100% of the Tea Party members may become illegal.

Idiotic; inventive, but idiotic.

Don't worry about this for a second.  There is precedent setting Federal case law that will give the judge the ability to dismiss the case on Summary Judgment.  This is nothing more than insanity.

lol, the dude is going to have to find God and sue it.

This has got to be the stupidest thing I've read to date! I say if they wanna hate, then let 'em. I don't think there is a judge alive no matter how conservative that would touch this woth a ten foot pole and a straight guys penis!

I have seen this posted over and over again online over the past few days and it never ceases to make me at least laugh out loud (LOL for those unfamiliar with that little acronym).  And, for me anyway, it always comes down to, who would be named as plaintiffs?  Starting with Plato, Aristotle & a whole slew of ancient Greeks & Romans . . . And what self-respecting attorney (an oxymoron if ever there was one) would even entertain the possibility of filing such a lawsuit?  They would be laughed all the way to their disbarment hearing.  In other words, Bitch Scarborough PLEASE!!!

1: I think you meant "defendants," not "plaintiffs."

2: There are few professions that offer greater opportunity to do social good than the practice of law. Attorneys have been behind many of the most substantial advancements our society has made, including in the field of equality for LGBTQ citizens. Taking your heartless jab at lawyers makes you look as ignorant and as hateful as the subject of this article.
