Stephen Baldwin Defends Participation In Ex-Gay Conference: I Can't Be Homophobic Because I Have Gay Friends

Stephen Baldwin attempts to Kirk Cameron his way back into limelight landed him at the Rising From the Ashes conference in South Carolina last week. The conference, organized by a coalition of vehement anti-gay and ex-gay ministries promised "freedom from homosexuality through Jesus Christ."

Stephen appeared on HuffPost Live this week to defend his affiliation with the conference, and now, the movement, and insisted that he's not anti-gay because he has close friends who are gay.

HuffPost reports:

The 47-year-old star of "The Usual Suspects" and "Threesome" told HuffPost Live that the conference is primarily "an opportunity for people who are unsure ... to have a conversation about [which] direction they want to go."

"I wouldn't say that my message is, 'You can pray the gay away,'" Baldwin said. "Literally, some of my best friends in the world are gay, and they know I'm evangelical and I know they're gay, and we love each other and respect each other in that way."
