Waiter Receives Anti-Gay Message On Receipt Instead Of Tip
What is going on with bigots using restaurant receipts as preferred methods of communication?
Another restaurant receipt featuring a message of attack on a minority group has hit the Internet. This time around, it's a gay waiter who was on the receiving end of some nasty words from a bigoted customer.
The Carrabba's server in Kansas City, Kansas found the message on the back of a receipt from one of the table's he served earlier this week. It read: "Thank you for your service, it was excellent. That being said, we cannot in good conscience tip you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to God. May God have mercy on you."
Friends and family have taken to social media to arrange a massive showing of support that will take place this evening at 6:30 p.m. at the restaurant, though the waiter insists he doesn't need monetary donations. "The offers to help pay me back are much appreciated, but not at all needed. I'd prefer to let my work ethic and my service do the talking, nothing else."
KMBC spoke with customers for their reactions to the news:
"I think it's so unfortunate that we would impress upon other people our beliefs," said Susan Fehlig.
"It's honestly despicable. It's not different than saying I'm not tipping you because you're black, or a Jew, or anything like that," said Will Rogers. "In this day and age, being gay, it's not really any cause for a fuss."
