Lesbian Hawaii State Rep. Jo Jordan Votes Against Marriage Equality

Democratic Hawaii state Rep. Jo Jordan has earned herself a unique distinction. She's the first openly LGBT lawmaker to vote against marriage equality.

Puzzling, right?

Even more puzzling is that according to Think Progress

Jordan had reservations about the bill before Hawaii’s special session even began. Last week, she explained that she was undecided, because even though 75 percent of her constituents support marriage equality, she felt she had to represent the entire state. She seemed to be unaware that statewide polling showed a 55 percent majority support marriage equality.

So who exactly is she representing? Apparently not the people that voted for her, or the majority of her state, or--you know--the LGBT community.

Jordan defended her vote on the Hawaii House floor, saying:

No, nobody’s going to beat me up. Nobody’s going to throw me out of my (LGBT) community — I’m not quite sure of that… I might vote against something that I personally believe in. I personally believe I should have the right. You know how hard it is for me to say no? I have to say no.

Trust us, you don't have to say no, Jo. You really don't.

Hopefully she'll make the right call on Friday during the third reading vote on marriage equality.

If she doesn't, we propose we throw her off the island. (The gay island. And maybe the Hawaiian one too.)

Speaking for us that live here and Endorse Marriage Equality we were shocked, saddened and very very confused at Rep. Jordons vote. It was not only the direct opposite of our wishes in Hawaii it showed her political will for Equality. She gave in because of hate for herself and from church groups, If we have anything to do with it she will not be re-elected.

I and my husband live on Oahu and I have to say watching the hate in Hawaii was horrifying, never on the mainland had we seen as much hate as there was here. (we were married in Calif and protesed and went to court to over turn prop 8) but in Hawaii Aloha I guess is only for the select few. The sad part in "true" hawaiians are for marriage its the people that came from other countries and call Hawaii home that spewed the hate. Rep. Jordon sadly is a self hating lesbian, there were thousands of threats to "vote them out" if the voted for marriage, lucky for us there was enough that did not listen to the hate. As for Rep Jordon, if I ever hear she met the love of her life, and wants to get married! I will be the 1st boycotting her wedding!

She has no right to EVER say she represent LGBT community ever again!  She's a traitor!

How did this self loathing woman get elected? Wasn't there a hint, somewhere, at sometime, that she would not support the very community she pledged to represent?

An idiot is still an idiot, gay or straight.

I think she's mentally unstable!

How dare she go against her own beliefs and the vote of the population of Hawaii. She is a sgame when it comes to women and the LGBT community as a whole.

This is like a black person voting for slavery! Makes no sense to me!

She looks like a butched up version of Alice the maid from the Brady Bunch.

If an African-American voted against the interests of African-Americans, we'd call him/her Uncle or Aunt 'Tom.'  What should we call an LGBT person who is more concerned with pleasing his/her straight "masters" than helping her own?

What that old expression? "With friends like these, who needs enemies?" jeez.

Shes probably scared or embarrassed of her sexuality

While I do not agree with her vote, I think it's important for the community to maintain decorum and not resort to violence and or name calling.

“Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.”

― Friedrich Nietzsche

Wouldn't be appropriate to say the words that come to mind about this person!!!!

What an ugly self loathing sack of shit bitch. Why doesnt she resign and save us all the trouble of putting up with her stupid life.

c'mon with the name calling!  not classy, bro - you can do better

Agreed, I can not say the words that come to mind.  I am, however, sorry she represents America. I'm Canadian and can't believe her thoughts. Read the article, just don't get it!

She is a traitor to the community.
