A documentary chronicling Chaz Bono's journey through gender transition is receiving quite the journey itself: it'll premiere later this month at the Sundance Film Festival before being broadcast on Oprah's OWN Network, which has just picked up the film.
Reports Deadline:
Oprah Winfrey's upstart cable network OWN has acquiredBecoming Chaz, the Fenton Bailey/Randy Barbato-directed feature documentary that will make its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and follows the gender reassignment journey that transformed Cher's and the late Sonny Bono's daughter Chastity into their son, Chaz Bono. The network is prepping a soiree up at the festival, where OWN will likely make a formal announcement of this deal.

After some consideration, quirky indie-pop artist Vincent Minor is finally OK with the descriptor “openly gay” that for years the media has employed in his interviews and profiles. But, as it should be, the second one listens to the wrenching, expertly-crafted compositions on Vincent’s eponymous debut, his primary designation as “gay” deteriorates into the ether, replaced with a new slew of adjectives (“refreshing,” “enigmatic,” and “game-changing” come to mind). Head to our Web-Exclusives area to read our full interview with Vincent and come up with your own adjectives!

Did someone steal your pictures to use on Manhunt or Grindr? First of all, you should be flattered. But second (and most importantly), as of January 1, 2011, fraudulent use of photos online by someone who isn't the person they claim to be is now against California law.
The legislation, SB 1411, was signed by Governor Schwarzenegger in 2010 in the hopes of finally providing legal recourse to victims affected by what once was a murky area of unprotected law -- social network impersonation. Effective last week, the new statewide mandate makes any sort of online impersonation a misdemeanor with fines of up to $1,000 and a year in jail.
Coinciding with the new Golden State law is Texas's similar handling of online impersonation, which ... FULL STORY

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the first same-sex marriages performed legally in Canada. Fifty of the country's first LGBT couples to tie the knot back in 2001 -- the first to be legally wed in North America -- will renew their vows in an anniversary celebration in Toronto today.
Anne Vautour, who will take part in the ceremony with her partner Elaine, said, "I had no idea how huge this was going to be for so many people. It made a huge difference in the world."

Tags: cher, divas, pop, dance, charts, records, burlesque Think what you want about centuries-long gay icon Cher, but the diva can put record sale numbers behind her mettle. Now, thanks to "You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me" (from Burlesque) rising to No. 1 on the Billboard Dance Chart, Miss Cher becomes the only artist to have hit records spanning 32 FIVE decades! That's quite the accomplishment.
If the placenta-bath hibernation facilities in Sweden stay in business and the bionics team at MIT continues to improve its technology, chances are likely Cher will have another No. 1 hit in the '20s!

First Andrew Garfield in Spiderman garb and now a still from the set of Captain America showing Chris Evans in full costume -- in high def. Man, we love Fridays.
"He likes to do it all by himself," costume designer Anna Sheppard told Entertainment Weekly when asked if she helps Chris into the gear. "I think it helps him feel like a super hero."
Somehow we know that if we helped Chris into the getup we'd figure out a way to still make him feel like a superhero. TMI? Should we cap our morning-time mimosa marathon at three?

A gay man and a straight woman have legally married for the sake of an art project in Europe. (I type this as the NOM NOM NOM Monster's head explodes trying to identify if this is sanctimonious or not).
Paul Cartwright, 20, and 21-year old Nora Battenberg-Cartwright (at least they're somewhat traditional!) tied the knot to proclaim their artistic commitment to each other.
Says Paul, "It’s about an artistic unity rather than a love union, to join each other in art and make us the art.
"It’s a really truthful marriage and we will still see other people.
“It is a bit strange calling her my wife and her calling me her husband. We do love each other, but in a different way."
The married couple, both art students in Worcester,... FULL STORY

GLAAD isn't so happy about the olive branch extended by KXXT-AM and CFNY-FM to the Westboro Clan, and wants you to sign a petition asking them to not give the deranged a bullhorn. Here's the petition.
This week Westboro has reacted to the tragedy in Tucson with messages like "God Sent the Shooter." Giving airtime to this malicious group is like negotiating with terrorists. Except in this case, Westboro is being incentivized by being provided with an outlet to broadcast their hate to thousands of others. While countless radio stations and media outlets around the country are properly paying tribute to the fallen and taking a serious look at the tragedy in Tucson, KXXT-AM and CFNY-FM have decided to renege on their responsibility as broadcasters... Isn't it glorious to be gay and so disliked?
Every day of every week, this man continues to think that treating people with disparity is A-OK. His main argument seems to be the tried and true of the religious right: Marriage is the union of husband and wife and it's as old as time, blah, blah, blah.
But, that's bullshit.
Why does he always seem to skirt the real issue?: Gays are not afforded the same benefits simply because they are gay.
Those benefits only come with marriage. So we want marriage in order to get those benefits.
Heterosexuals are eligible for these benefits just because they are heterosexual. Doesn't that seem like some group of people is getting "special rights" to you, Mr. Brown?
Here's his supposedly well-meaning... FULL STORY
