Actor Brian Michael Comes Out As Transgender

You may recall Actor, Brian Michael, from his roles on Gossip Girl, Girls, and Blue Bloods. This time around, Michael picked up a role on Oprah Winfrey's Queen Sugar playing Transgender Police Officer, Toine Wilkins.

In an interview with GLAAD, Michael talks about being one of the few Trans-actors to play a Cisgender role on screen.

"I also had concerns that disclosing my gender history, without establishing myself as a strong actor first, would exclude me from being considered for non-trans roles. I feel that because I began my career post-transition and am not "visibly trans," I had the privilege of choosing to disclose or not and I was able to go in for any role that fit my type."

You can catch the second season Queen Sugar on the Oprah Winfrey Network. You may be familiar with it's creator, A Wrinkle In Time Director, Ava DuVernay.

Safe to say with a name like DuVernay behind a progressive, hit series; Brian Michael will be popping into all of our news feeds and is on his way to becoming a household name!

Shine bright, Mr. Michael! I cannot wait to see what you have in store for the future.
