Alan Menken Reveals The Gay Icon He Wants To Play Ursula (In Drag) In 'The Little Mermaid' Live Action Film

We are here for this!!!

Speaking to Gay Times, legendary composer Alan Menken revealed which LGBT icon he'd love to see play Ursula in the live-action adaption of The Little Mermaid.

He says:

“I’ve wanted Harvey Fierstein to play Ursula. I would kill for that!”

Fierstein famously appeared in drag in the role of Edna in Hairspray on Broadway, and later in NBC’s Hairspray Live! Additionally, he penned the books for several celebrated LGBT-themed Broadway shows, including La Cage aux FollesCasa ValentinaTorch Song Trilogy, and Hairspray.

Truth be told, Fierstein as Ursula would be ICONIC!

As soon as I read the headline I knew it would be Harvey Fierstein. I'm so thrilled about Hairspray last year, because it preserved his performance as Edna forever (I saw Bruce Villanch and Blake Hammond do the role.)  Fierstein is perfect for Ursula!
