Alec Baldwin Apologizes For Homophobic Comments During Twitter Rant

Following Alec Baldwin's Twitter rant against Daily Mail reporter George Stark, which included gay slurs, Baldwin has reached out to GLAAD with and explanation and an apology.

Following outreach earlier today, Alec Baldwin wrote the following to GLAAD:

"My ill-advised attack on George Stark of the Daily Mail had absolutely nothing to do with issues of anyone's sexual orientation. My anger was directed at Mr. Stark for blatantly lying and disseminating libelous information about my wife and her conduct at our friend's funeral service. As someone who fights against homophobia, I apologize.

I have worked, periodically, with numerous marriage equality organizations, especially over the past couple of years, to achieve the very rights that gay couples are earning by recent court decisions. I would not advocate violence against someone for being gay and I hope that my friends at GLAAD and the gay community understand that my attack on Mr. Stark in no way was the result of homophobia.

Many Thanks, Alec Baldwin."

GLAAD Vice President of Communications Rich Ferraro replied, saying:

"Alec Baldwin is making it clear that the intent behind his tweets does not excuse his language, especially at a time when there were 11 incidents of violence against gay men in New York City just last month. As we all work to end such senseless acts of violence, allies like Baldwin are right to use these moments to reinforce support for the community and LGBT equality."

Thoughts on Baldwin's apology, Instincters??

I think he supports the community because it makes him feel better,   This isn't the first time that he has made gay slurs,   and I don't think it will be his last.  I used to have alot of respect for him,  but not anymore.

He may support in public but I don't think he does in his heart.

I am sure Alec Baldwin could have dropped the "N" bomb on this dude and gotten away with it. What a ridiculous double standard.

thanks for your apology paula deen, i mean alec baldwin......

i agree with @KMonsefi - he has always been a strong ally of the GLBT community - we get so pc - using the word 'Queen" is not offensive to me.

Alec

In the future, think before you talk, and you will never have to take anything back.

While his attack on Mr. Stark may have had nothing to do with homophobia, his chosen language has everything to do with it. Seriously, Mr. Baldwin? Contact me. Having been a gay man on the receiving end of more than one such attack in my lifetime, I'll be glad to explain to you exactly how it does.

I'm glad he doesn't have a line of cookware at walmart or target. Oh wait, gay slurs are OK, nevermind.

Two words... Paula Deen
