'American Idol' Gets Its First On-Air Openly Gay Contestant
Last night, the show welcomed its first openly gay contestant to the Top 30 (Top 15 girls), 20-year-old San Francisco lesbian, Emkay Nobilette and it was emotional for all involved. (Though we're thinking it was probably more emotional for us, because, TEARS.)
“I’m very obviously gay,” Emkay tells Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. “And there are always gonna be people in America and everywhere else who will definitely hate me. But I think that in the last two years there have been a lot of things that have really changed that, and have made it a positive thing.”
We've already got a crush!
Clearly Emkay isn't the first gay contestant to cross the Idol stage, but she is the first to discuss her sexual orientation on-air during the show. It's good to see 13 seasons in.
