Anglican Church Head Says Acceptance Of Gay Marriage Puts Christians At Risk Of Attack

In a bizarre statement, the head of the Anglican church Rev. John Welby, the Archibishop of Canterbury told an interviewer that the Anglican church could not support same-sex marriage because it would put Anglicans around the world at risk of anti-gay attacks.

He specifically said that acceptance of same-sex marriage would be "absolutely catastrophic" for Christians in African countries.

From The Telegraph:

Speaking on his first live phone-in on LBC radio, the Most Rev Justin Welby said he recently visited the grave of 369 bodies in Africa where it was believed ''if we leave a Christian community here we will all be made to become homosexual and so we will kill all the Christians''

Asked by one caller about whether the Church of England would accept gay marriage after it was allowed in law, he said: ”The impact of that on Christians in countries far from here, like South Sudan, like Pakistan, Nigeria and other places would be absolutely catastrophic and we have to love them as much as the people who are here.

”I’ve stood by a graveside in Africa of a group of Christians who’d been attacked because of something that had happened far, far away in America. And they were attacked by other people because of that.

”That burns itself into your soul, as does the suffering of gay people in this country,” he added.

What's your take on his remarks, Instincters?

Why is a human being in a position to make changes to a religion that worships a supernatural being in the first place?

Because of human beings.

Wow - the sheer amount of stupidity is mind boggling and this coming from the leader of the Anglican Church.

Perfect strategy. Republicans have been doing it for a while now; blame your opponent of the very same thing you've been doing.
It dupes the conservative drones every time

And churches in Africa are preaching hate of gays because American bigots lost the battle in the United States and are funneling money to Africa to support anti-gay movements. They are even saying "look at what happened in the United States. It could happen here if you don't fight it."

^ This.

Gay people that are attacked in Africa are mainly attacked because of what they hear their churches preach. It's about time the church takes some responsibility and helps people who need it besides people who just give them money !!
