Archbishop Desmond Tutu Calls Gay Rights The Most Pressing Issue For Christians

Nobel Peace Prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who fought against apartheid in South Africa, spoke with Charisma News and was asked:

Q: What is the most pressing issue in which Christians need to relate their faith to power and injustice?

Tutu responded: It isn’t that it’s questionable when you speak up for the right of people with different sexual orientation. People took some part of us and used it to discriminate against us. In our case, it was our ethnicity; it’s precisely the same thing for sexual orientation. People are killed because they’re gay. I don’t think, “What do I want to do today? I want to speak up on gay rights.” No. It’s God catching me by my neck.

We wonder if God will be catching more religious types by the neck. He seems to be making some inroads with the Pope...

What do you think of Tutu's statement?

Dick Z, you are so right.  And not just the religious leaders...the political leaders, as well.  (Finger pointed at Putin.)

I think that Archbishop Tutu is one of our very best friends, and I know that religious leaders from all over the world can learn a great deal from him, if they only would.
