Ben Whishaw Confirmed To Play Freddie Mercury In Biopic

Looks like it's settled! Following rumors back in October that openly gay actor, Ben Whishaw, was the favorite to portray Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, Deadline is now exclusively reporting that Whishaw has landed the role!

Deadline writes:

Hot off directing the musical Sunshine On Leith, British actor-turned-helmer Dexter Fletcher has closed a deal to helm the movie on rock supergroup Queen, with  frontman Freddie Mercury to be played Ben Whishaw.

Whishaw has been rumored to be getting the Mercury role for some time.

If you'll remember, Sacha Baron Cohen was originally attached to play Mercury. Do you think Whishaw, who you may have seen in Perfume or in the recent James Bond movies as "Q," is the right choice?

If he can exude charisma and play an over-the-top sexy ass rock star. then sure. I'll be curious to see his performance. I can only imagine what crazy scenes/situations and long long nights Freddie Mercury got into in the 1970s and 1980s. Still, Freddie Mercury was a lot more ruggedly handsome and sometimes dangerous looking where Ben Wishaw is very pretty.
