A Boy Scout And His Father Were Kicked Out Of A Hardware Store By An Employee Who Won't "Support Homos"
A hardware store is getting a lot of bad press after a boy scout was kicked out because a homophobic clerk doesn’t “support homos.”
In Purcellville, Virginia, an employee of a 100-year-old hardware store, called Nichols Hardware, became incredulous after a boy scout and his fathered tried to buy a few items.
Apparently, the clerk had a problem with the Boy Scouts in general, because they’re allowing girls and gay kids to join the group.
A bystander named Carly Hamilton spoke to WUSA9 to share her perspective on the situation.
“I thought it was a joke. All of a sudden, the guy behind the counter interrupts the kid, loudly, and says, ‘you need to get out of here. We don’t support organizations like you, or yours.’ The guy goes, ‘I’m not kidding, you need to turn around and get out of here. We do not support your organization. Your organization is not the Boy Scouts anymore.”
According to Hamilton, when the boy’s father tried to intervene, the store clerk only got more loud and obnoxious.
She says the clerk said things such as:
“’Get out,’ he said. ‘Get out.’ I was shocked and appalled….He turned to me aggressively and said, ‘We don’t support homos… They allow homos in the Boy Scouts now.’”
Eventually, the boy and his father did leave the store. Sadly, no one's been able to identify or contact the two yet. That said, a review has been found on Yelp that seems to have been left by the father.
“Thrown out!!!” wrote the reviewer. “Can’t believe it. I have shopped here since 1985. Went in with my son to get help with his Eagle Scout project.. . . The employee started a rant about the scouts being destroyed, allowing girls and homosexuals to join scouting.”
On top of that, the Washington Post has reached out to the store’s manager who said that he’s going talk to the employee himself to investigate.
“I won’t put up with it,” he said. “If it turns out to be true, he will be terminated.”
