Brooklyn Nets To Sign Jason Collins For Remainder Of Season

It looks like openly gay trailblazer Jason Collins will be calling the Brooklyn Nets home for the rest of the NBA season! Sources reveal that he's about to be officially picked up following two successful short-term contracts with the team.

ESPN reports:

The Brooklyn Nets will sign center Jason Collins for the remainder of the season on Saturday, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation.

Sources told ESPN.com on Tuesday that the Nets, who feel they're getting everything they expected from Collins when they signed him for frontcourt depth Feb. 23, are already operating under the premise that the 34-year-old will finish the season with them even though his second 10-day deal doesn't expire until after Friday. Sources say that the internal expectation all along was that Collins would be a Net for the rest of the season, from the moment he signed his first 10-day deal, as long he proved that he could still be an effective defender, which he did immediately.

...

The Nets and Collins have handled added media attention exceptionally well. Before playing in his first home game in Brooklyn on March 3 against Chicago, Collins was asked about comparisons between him and Jackie Robinson breaking barriers in Brooklyn.

"I'm just trying to be Jason Collins," Collins said. "What Jackie Robinson did for the sport of baseball and our society [is] tremendous. But I am just trying to be Jason Collins."

Congratulations on the great news and your successful return to the court, Jason!
