Catholic League's Bill Donohue Wants To March In NYC Pride Parade w/ 'Straight Is Great' Banner
Anti-gay LGBT leader of the Catholic League has requested that he be allowed to march in the 2014 New York City Pride March with a banner that reads "Straight Is Great."
Donohue claims that this is in response to the LGBT community bullying St. Patrick's Day parades into allowing gay organizations to march.
Well get your walking shoes on, Bill, because you're invited!
The March Director of NYC Pride, David Studinski says, “Mr. Donohue and his group are free to participate in the 2014 March. His group’s presence affirms the need for this year’s Pride theme, ‘We Have Won When We’re One.’ Straight is great – as long as there’s no hate."
Chris Frederick, the Managing Director of NYC Pride concurs, saying: “Straight allies are great. We have thousands of straight people participating in the Pride March, including Catholic groups, who support LGBT youth, families and married couples.”
And Donohue will even have a marching partner!
GLAAD's President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis says, "As a fellow Irish New Yorker, I'm hoping Bill will march with me at NYC Pride. I look forward to the day when I can march openly with Bill in the NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade, and not be turned away because of who I am."
Looks like you're all set, Bill! We'll see you at Pride!!
