'Days Of Our Lives' Delivers Gay Love Triangle Twist We Didn't See Coming!

Spoiler alert!!

Oh boy, when closeted professional baseball player Paul Narita made his way to Salem on Days of Our Lives, it was pretty clear he had his sights set on his ex-boyfriend (and now very married) Sonny Kiriakis.

That made it all the more surprising on the Thursday, January 8 episode when Paul hit the sheets with Sonny's husband, Will Horton!!

That's right. Paul and Will had sex!

At least Paul can honestly say he didn't know Will was married, much less to Sonny. What's Will's excuse? (Besides Paul being smokin' hot!)

Does this spell doom for daytime's long running gay supercouple, Will and Sonny??

TV Guide Magazine's Michael Logan gets the scoop from the three performers, Guy Wilson (Will), Freddie Smith(Sonny) and newcomer Christopher Sean (Paul). Check out their interview and watch Thursday's jawdropping scenes!

Who are you rooting for in this triangle, Instincters??

As A gay guy whos been married for over 17 years now I find this true to life for many in our culture, however I think its putting us real couples out on the line!!!!  Not all of us Gay people are out for sex with whoever comes into the front door.  Although I know this is a soap, I really thought that Days was going to show society that gay people can have a family as well.  To bad they had to rip a great story line apart.  I'm sure the conservatives are having a field day with this one.

My biggest problem with Days is that they wrote out their best characters (Jack Deveraux, Carrie, Austin, Billie, Kristen/Susan, Bo, etc.) and broke up all the best couples (Bo/Hope, John/Marlena, Jack/Jennifer, Patch/Kayla, Justin/Adrienne). I have been DVRing the show and watching the John and Marlena scenes since they are reuniting and FFing through everything else. I know I'm gay, but the gay story is not compelling enough for me. Will and Sonny got together too easily. All my favorite couples were tormented for years before they got to be together and happy. For example, Carrie and Austin struggled from 1993-97 to be together while Sami and Lucas schemed to break them up. Will and Sonny never had someone trying to keep them apart.

I love it. I think Sonny and the new "player" will get back together. But it's complicated.

And oh soo juicy. I've been watching. How close all 3 of them have been with only a wall or a phone seperating them. But a vocano's gonna explode soon. I hope all 3 dudes get it on. But too taboo for

TV :(

So just because they're gay, they should be immune from cheating? The drama is the essential part of daytime tv, and it would be ridiculous to think that men in gay relationships don't cheat. Its not to say that every gay man cheats, just like when there is infidelity in a straight relationship on tv it doesn't mean that all straight people cheat. Equal opportunity storylines goes to the point that gay relationships are the same as straight relationships.

Throw Satan back in Marlena and I'll be interested in DOOL again.

I agree. I enjoyed Will's coming out story in 2011/12, but I stopped watching Days when they fired Carrie, Austin and Jack. I won't watch the show anymore because my favorite characters are no longer on the show, all the supercouples have been broken up, and the stories are dull and poorly written.

Big surprise. A show shows gays as lying & cheating. Gross. Some of our community take relationships & vows seriously. How will we ever get rednecks or politicians to take us seriously if WE don't take us seriously!?!?

Will is the son of Sami and Lucas. If you actually watched the show and knew its history, you'd know that they are two of the biggest schemers and liars in Days history. It's genetics. Makes sense their son would be manipulative and dishonest too.

Distorted.  (huh)  How is showing gay men acting just like straight men a problem?  "Some" straight men take relationships & vows seriously, but they don't make for good TV.  It wasn't that long ago when all gay men on TV were "screaming queens" and it wasn't that long before that that gay men didn't exist in the TV universe at all.  I'm 65.  I've been through it all and right now it is good.  Lighten up. We don't always have to be unhappy.

I have watched Days since its inception in 1965, when I was 4.  I used to watch it with my mom, and my daughter watched it with me.  I'm not sure if my mom would be on board with this story line, she died in 1981, but she was very open-minded.  I think she would have come around.

I'm a gay girl, btw.

He requested will to do the interview. He knew and now will is screwed but Paul has chemistry with both. Although I love sonny and will. Chandler and Freddie had more chemistry together. They can't be happy people on soaps.

Personally I think he did know Will was married to his ex, that's why he slept with him but can claim ignorance.  And of course we saw this coming.

Why not root for all of them? Lots of people have triads and polyamourous relationships that work very happily. It would be interesting to see one play out well on a soap opera.

That's not how soaps work, nor should they. Soaps are very traditional, which is part of their appeal. The formula is this: you have a supercouple (e.g., Will/Sonny, John/Marlena, Bo/Hope, Carrie/Austin), and then you have a third party trying to break them up (Paul, Kristen, Billie, Sami). Eventually true love wins out. That is the appeal of soap operas and their couples.
