Dustin Lance Black Takes On 'When We Rise' Bisexual Erasure Claims From Sara Ramirez

Things got a little heated on Twitter on Wednesday as Dustin Lance Black defended his historical LGBT miniseries When We Rise from accusations of bi-erasure.

Grey's Anatomy star Sara Ramirez initially tweeted:

To which Black responded:

This led to other bisexual activists and activist groups engaging in the discussion, with some noting their disagreement with Black that bisexuals were given visibility in the series. Black explained that while When We Rise did include bisexual figures, the term bisexual wasn't used in the time period explored in the film.

...Which not everyone agreed with:

Black continued to defend When We Rise, tweeting:

Sara Ramirez ultimately circled back, thanking Black for engaging offering to meet to discuss the issue directly.

Which Black was amenable to:

And then we all held hands.

What do you think about bi-erasure claims against When We Rise?

When We Rise was not the story of LGBT America. It was the stories, masterfully told, of three distinct individuals, and their efforts to bring liberation to us all. The show was not a dramatization of the fight from a general sense; it was shown to us as witness by the three stories themselves. Were there bisexual people fighting alongside? Yes. Were there transgendered folks? Yes. Were there straight allies of every shade? Yes. But to tell all those stories, or whitewash the memories of our three main characters so those memories appears more inclusive...? That would take way more than just a 4 night mini-series. Well done, Lance!!! Very well done!!

How many "stories" have to be crammed into one miniseries? Wright your own show if you didn't like Blacks. What do you want him to to do? Rewrite it?

Could Sara Ramirez be virtue signaling to feel better about herself?  Has she done anything lately? Maybe this will give her some much needed publicity.

Ramirez stayed closeted while Black was out, in the brief time she has been out she hasn't attacked bigotry, she has just attacked gays and lesbians. She behaves more like an anti-lgbt GOP troll than anything else.
