ExxonMobil Announces Benefits For Married Same-Sex Couples

Will we be able to ice skate in hell this winter?

ExxonMobil, which has for years been the subject of protests and abysmal ratings on HRC's Corporate Equality Index, has broken new ground today by providing benefits for legally married same-sex couples in the U.S.

The AP reports:

Exxon says it will begin offering benefits to legally married same-sex couples in the U.S. for the first time as of Jan. 1.

The company says it will recognize "all legal marriages" when it determines eligibility for health care plans for the company's 77,000 employees and retirees in the U.S.

That means if a gay employee has been married in a state or country where gay marriage is legal, his or her spouse will be eligible for benefits with the company starting next year.

The out-of-character move comes on the heels of a lawsuit filed in Illinois and the Labor Department's recent ruling instructing companies to provide benefits to legally wed same-sex couples.

translated: they were forced to after years of their CEO and board vehemently refusing to treat their employees as equals. They can go eff themselves. Wouldn't buy from those losers if my life depended on it.

This is great news. With DOMA being struck down by the Supreme Court, the dominoes will fall, and discriminating against same-sax couples will soon be a thing of the past in all 50 states. Love is Love. Marriage is Marriage. FORWARD!
