The Final Fantasy Series To Finally Get Same-Sex Marriage
As someone who grew up with Final Fantasy, my real final fantasy was to not feel alienated by the globally-popular series. In Final Fantasy XIV, gaymers around the world are getting their chance, at last, to marry a character of the same-sex. Opposite-sex couples have been able to pledge eternal love in the gaming series for years.
The announcement was made by game director and producer Naoki Yoshida.
“People within Eorzea will be able to pledge their eternal love and or friendship in a ceremony of eternal bonding," Yoshida said. "And this will be open to people regardless of race, creed, and gender. Two players…if they want to be together, in Eorzea, they can-through this eternal bonding ceremony.”
“We discussed it," Yoshida added, "and we realized: within Eorzea, why should there be restrictions on who pledges their love or friendship to each other? And so we decided to go this way.”
Finally, Final Fantasy!
